They get two stars because the food is edible. The service is terrible. It takes FOREVER to get your food. It doesn't matter if you go in when its busy or empty. There is never anyone working in the back so no one is actually making food. It's the craziest McDonald's I have ever been to, ever. Of all the McDonalds across the United States this is the worst. THE WORST!

This joint was always a staple when I stayed at my friends house during those dog days of my Fort Lee experience. Weekends were often spent in DC and I often laid my head at my friend's SS apartment. After a movie or other not-so-late-night experience, we would head here for a quick snack - usually resulting in consumption of a Big Mac or other Ray Croc "concoction." Service is hit or miss - some days I walk out thinking that life is grand, other days I walk out thinking my wallet just got raped and left a bad taste in my mouth. But if it's us after a night out, we usually don't care - I'd otherwise just avoid it when I'm sober.

I would give this McDonalds a 0 if it was an option. One of the most disgusting McDonalds I have ever been to. Most the time I come here it's occupied by homeless, thugs, and police officers.

Whats sad about establishments is once it gets a rep, everything else is dead (for those not familiar with slang(dead=just doesn't matter)) this place has a rep for being ghetto. A bunch of young kids and wanna be thugs. Young ladies lookin like night walkers on a Saturday night but in daylight and on a weds. Not hating. To each it's own. But stuff like that doesn't get overlooked, when you see the back station a total mess and chaotic only one register going when there's a line and available workers. Your out of practically everything that people go to McDonald's for. Normally I don't review chains like McDonald's because an establishment like McDonald's it's either you going to eat their or your not. A security guard walking making sure nobody causes no trouble, kinda makes you feel like you gotta hurry and eat. Only one outlet working. I understand it's right on the corner of busy traffic and you don't want a bunch of loiters. But Mc D, step up your franchise game.

I mean, i know its McDonalds... But this manager didn't even let me finish my food. The food i just paid for... Not a minute before closing, mind you. She acted like a goddamn bomb was about to explode. So wack...

The only reason they get a 2 stars instead of 1 star is for the funky decor. It makes you feel like you are out a lounge and should be sipping a tropical drink, not eating McNuggets and drinking soda. The music though, needs some work. Besides the decor, we tried placing our order and had absolutely no idea what the cashier was saying; sounded like she was speaking 10% english and 90% something else. If I understood 1 word per sentence from her, I was lucky. She clearly didn't understand our order either, despite enunciating it to her 3 times. I even had a random lady ask to sit down at our table and join us while waiting for the food to be ready. Um, no thank you! The parking lot is ridiculously small and a major cluster $%^&. Just avoid this location, unless completely desperate!

  • Mark S.

The food is always pretty quick and the service isn't bad. Since it is in downtown Silver Spring.. it is a bit.. .. you know. ghetto lol. but it's funny.. during lunch you can see business people dressed up .. and then you can see hoodlums that have skipped classes. very diverse crowd that comes to this mcdonalds. everyone keeps to themselves and are united by one thing - a craving for mcdonalds.

This place is getting better- it couldn't get much worse. But, now the 24 hour dining room closes at 12pm M-Th; they proudly don't give our cups of water - even in the Summer, and being pleasant to customers is way beyond the job expectations of the counter staff. That being said, if you are really hungry, and don't have any other options or places to go and it's a late weekend night - you might give it a try. Keep your expectations low and you might not be disappointed.

  • Kassity L.

It's a McDonald's, so there really isn't anything to say about the food. This review is for their service. I had asked for a cup of ice and was told I had to pay for the price of a fountain drink for a cup of ice. What place charges you for ice?

  • Astro C.

Food and service were OK. Small parking lot and no drive through are a drawback. I got there well before lunch time (11:00am) and the line was long already (5-6 persons in front of me). I can see that the employees were not trying hard enough.

  • Rose M.

This McDonalds is GHETTO! This is a dirty and filthy location. Employees lack customer service and are very slow. There's a very small parking lot and no drive thru. The tables are broken, the restrooms are dirty, they didn't have ketchup...and the list can go on and on. If you want McDonalds AVOID this location!

  • Veronique L.

I get the two stars . Why did it take over 5 minutes to get my big mac meal? Because people just decided not to make it. As I stood waiting for my order, others who ordered meals after me received theirs. Luckily, one of the people behind the counter noticed me standing and waiting for awhile and yelled for someone to make my food. Another annoying thing besides lack of fast service is service. The cashiers are friendly, but I don't think evening rush hour is a time to be striking up conversations with customers when there are lines going everywhere. One plus is they did try to keep the floors mopped up and dry as the evening rain fell steadily. This McDonald's is super chaotic and busy, and it made me feel very uncomfortable with the quality and level of service I and other customers received.

I thought the McDonalds on 16th street in Silver Spring was bad. One star is too much for this place. I went in on a Tuesday evening around 9. There were about 10 people waiting around for their orders. I should have just left. I placed my order and waited a good 10 minutes with everybody else. They were not even busy. So I had 10 minutes to take in the appalling condition of this McDonalds. It was filthy, Ketchup was spilled all over the counter, the soda machine was a mess and out of ice. There was plenty of staff, but they were all sitting around. I cannot believe that McDonalds corporation puts up with this. Why don't they visit their franchises to see how disgusting many of them are. This place should be shut down.

  • James C.

WORST Mcd I've ever been to. One of the 3rd shift cashiers is abominable. Nobody ever remembers to give me a cup immediately after ordering a combo -- COMMON FRIGGIN' SENSE!! The ice machine on the right is always out. The only positive thing about this place is one of their newest cashiers who, alone, deserves 4 stars, so for a split second I almost gave this place a 2 star. AVOID IF POSSIBLE

  • Val A.

If I had another option for a late burger, I would not go here. It's a fast food place but it feels like a a sloppy cafeteria. One time, the cashier asked me to wait in the middle of ordering so he could finish flirting with this gal. The place smells like a busy gym which is marginally better than a public toilet. The only thing going for it is that it is open 24 hours. Don't order a happy meal for your kids here, it won't be enough to make them happy after they leave this place. Oh, and I would not think of eating in either, I think my bathroom floor would be more sanitary.

It's McDonalds' food. But the atmosphere!!!!! The tables are literally broken in half, the place is filthy and they seem to constantly have the lowest element of society working and eating there.

THE WORST SERVICE EVER I have probably eaten at most of the McDonald's in Montgomery County. I'm not sure about that, actually, I'm just guessing. Anyway, of all the McDonald's I've been to in the State of Maryland, this one is easily the worst. It is not an exaggeration to say that the staff treat their customers like shit. The food is as good as any other McDonald's. It's tasty and a good value for the price. That's the beauty of McDonald's, you know what you are going to get, in terms of the food. The service is where certain McDonald's stand out from each other, either positively or negatively. I have had more negative experiences with the staff of this McDonald's than I can count. With God as my witness, I solemnly swear that I WILL NEVER PATRONIZE THIS MCDONALD'S AGAIN. There's a Panera and a Flippin' Pizza (mom & pop pizza place) within a block or two up Colesville Rd. Of course, they don't have a dollar menu, and Panera closes at 10, whereas McDonald's is open till 1 or 2. Some people think this is a small thing, but for me it is not a small thing: They NEVER ask the customer if it is for here or to go. Unless you specify, they will assume it is to go and hand it to you in a bag. I have been screamed at by the night manager when I got into a disagreement with him. I will be mocked and/or ignored if I politely make a suggestion. Most of them speak broken English (if any), and they treat you like you're retarded if you can't understand them. The servers never smile at their customers. They never say thank you. Instead of handing you your order when it is ready, like most McDonald's, they shout out a number. I asked, "how are people supposed to know what number they have if you don't give them their receipt?" When I asked for a refill of Sweet Tea, I was told you only get one refill and I had already had one. This is the only McDonald's I have ever been to that has such a rule, and I have been to hundreds of McDonald's. (They have recently switched to self-serve drink machines.) When there is a mix up of somebody's order, instead of apologizing for the mistake and correcting the problem, they blame the customer for ordering the wrong thing. The owners have recently spent a large chunk of change renovating the place, and it looks a lot hipper and nicer than it used to, but if they spent a fraction of that amount training their staff on providing excellent customer service, it would be a better place to eat. There is not enough parking, but I can usually find a spot on the street if it is after 7 p.m. That is not the staff's fault, though. If I could give this McDonald's 0 stars, I would, but Yelp does not have the option.

The McDonald's in Silver Spring is still--by far, and always will be the worst McDonald's ever. Worst. Service. Imaginable.

  • Tori M.

Meh. I've experienced better. They're always pretty unorganized at this Micky D's but they get the job done. The soda machine's always out of one drink or another. As other Yelpers have said, it's a pretty diverse group of people at this McDonalds. But i's hit or miss with the service and most of the times it's a miss. The sign says they're open late, but don't be surprised if they're closed when you're there at midnight.
